Galway, sitting seventh with 34 points from eight wins, ten draws and eleven defeats, were unable to improve on their modest goal difference of –7 (38‑45) despite the home advantage. Bohemians, currently third with 53 points after fifteen victories, eight draws and seven losses, extended their superior goal difference to +17 (53‑36) and moved within striking distance of the leaders.
