About the FA Cup
The FA Cup, played as the Emirates FA Cup under its sponsorship name, is English football's senior knockout competition and the oldest national football competition in the world. Run by the Football Association, its 146th edition in 2026/27 draws entries from the Premier League down to the non-league pyramid. Manchester City hold the trophy after beating Chelsea 1–0 in the 2026 final. Football-Stats.co.uk carries live scores, fixtures, results, draws and goalscorers for every round proper.
How the FA Cup format works
Ties are single matches. Six qualifying rounds, beginning with the extra preliminary round in August, cut the non-league entry down to 32 clubs. Those qualifiers meet the 48 League One and League Two teams in the first round proper. The 44 Premier League and Championship clubs join in the third round, when 64 teams are left.
Replays have been removed from the first round proper onwards since 2024/25, under a six-year agreement between the FA and the Premier League; they still exist in the qualifying rounds, including in 2026/27. In 2025/26, level ties in the proper rounds went to extra time and, if still drawn, a penalty shoot-out. Both semi-finals and the final are staged at Wembley Stadium, which has hosted every semi-final since 2008.
History and records
The competition was first played in 1871/72, and Wanderers lifted the original trophy in March 1872. Arsenal are the most successful club with 14 wins, the latest in 2020, while Arsène Wenger won it seven times as a manager, a record. Replays were withdrawn in stages: from the semi-finals and final in 2000, the quarter-finals in 2016/17, the fifth round in 2019/20 and all proper rounds in 2024/25. Emirates has sponsored the cup since 2015. Manchester City's 2026 success was their eighth, and they became the first club to reach four consecutive finals.
FA Cup 2025/26: top scorers and standout numbers
Tyrese Shade of Burton Albion was the 2025/26 competition's leading scorer with five goals. The 2026 final, played on 16 May in front of 83,337 spectators, was settled by Antoine Semenyo's back-flick in the 72nd minute; City had already won the EFL Cup in March, completing a domestic cup double. The upset of the 2025/26 campaign came in the third round, when Macclesfield of the sixth-tier National League North beat holders Crystal Palace 2–1 at Moss Rose.
